This is a robotic 3d printing plastic project. The goal is to design a bridge by generating stress lines on a mesh and bracing it with additional support for better stability and structural integrity.
Base curves are lofted to create a surface. The surface is deformed on Karamba and the stress lines are generated. Important stress lines are extracted for further design.
Extracted stress lines are used as a design guideline to evolve a form that is structural stable and aesthetically pleasing. we used genetic algorithm to define the most stable geometry then made the fabrication by 3D printing layer by layer in two stages, the first one for the shell structure and the second one for the stress lines, do this allowed us to have a stronger structure.
